The Event

Hard Times Go Sk8 Daze is more than a skateboarding event—it’s a movement celebrating culture, community, and progress. Founded in 2020 to commemorate Juneteenth and highlight the diversity within skateboarding, it has grown into a two-day celebration embraced by the Portsmouth community, local businesses, and sponsors.
Every year, we kick things off on June 19 with our Juneteenth Jam at Parkside Skate Park—a high-energy contest that brings together skaters from Hampton Roads and beyond. We uplift local businesses by showcasing food trucks, vendors, and artists, reinforcing the power of cooperative economics. DJ Greyl-D has been setting the vibe every year, and 2025 will be no different—plus, we’ve got some exciting surprises in store, including a special guest host!
On June 21, we welcome summer with our Go Skate Day Kickback—a day dedicated to free skateboard lessons, contests, refreshments, and, of course, plenty of skating. We conclude with a Park Clean-Up, ensuring we give back to the spaces that bring us together.
